Have you been diagnosed with coeliac disease or gluten intolerance? The gluten found in grain may trigger coeliac disease in some people. By keeping a close eye on your diet you can remedy many of the symptoms.
What is it?
Coeliac disease is characterized by an allergy and inability to digest gluten. When gluten is ingested it damages and inflames the intestinal wall so they are unable to absorb nutrients. Gluten intolerance does not damage the intestines to the same degree as in ceoliac disease but can still be debilitating. Removal of all foods containing gluten will alleviate the disorder.

Dietary & Lifestyle Advice:
- Go gluten free Work with a knowledgeable health care practitioner to find out which foods contain gluten and eliminate them from your diet, plus alternative foods to eat to maintain a balanced diet. Foods that contain gluten include wheat, oats, barley and rye.
- Always read food labels Wheat derivitives may be hidden in foods such as sauces, condiments, dressing, dips, baked items, canned and packaged foods, so always read food labels.
- Coeliac-friendly foods Foods that ceoliacs can consume freely include corn, millet, rice, buckwheat and quinoa, as well as potato and soy flour.
- Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, nuts and seeds.
- Mix in a multi vitamin Take a high potency multi vitamin that will supply your body with all the essential micronutrients, especially iron, vitamin D, vitamin K, calcium, magnesium, folic acid and zinc.
